I compose
worlds.
Mexican-Spanish artist Santiago Cumplido composes worlds. A composer and countertenor, stage director, analogue photographer and painter, he brings music, bodies, light, space and technology into a single living composition. His work moves from intimate, luminous art objects to immersive rituals and large-scale live performance.
Born in Guadalajara and musically trained in Mexico, London, Barcelona and The Hague, his practice also draws on Core Energetics and Butoh with Akihito Ichihara. These languages meet in Egregor, a dystopian opera and dance ritual; Kontramariachi, a meeting of Mexican musical traditions across centuries; and Monstra et Spectra, a contemporary bestiary of images, matter and performance. At the centre of it all is presence: the possibility of feeling more intensely alive.
